Anxiety is not who you are. Its your body’s way of keeping you safe.

When you experience anxiety and I am fairly sure we all do have these moments it is your body’s way of keeping you safe. It is an overprotective response, an alarm system that hasn’t learned to stand down yet.

When you tap you lower cortisol, the main stress hormone. Research has shown that people who tap lower their levels significantly. Tapping is helping our nervous system to rebalance.

When we feel anxious it is not the time to problem solve or take action but our brain wants to do that because it is busy scanning for solutions or for the why in the scenario. But this becomes our own source of swirl. The brain thinks of this reason or this solution and keeps going around in circles. However, tapping on our meridian points calms the brain. It becomes easier for positive thoughts to come in after tapping. It is often when we get those ‘ah ha’ moments.

You can picture events ahead of time and tap on the feelings and thoughts you are having. By doing this you acknowledge them and then replace them with calmer ones. You are pairing a response that says this is dangerous and its getting soothed. You are teaching your body safety. You can logically think something but your body will hijack you. You have to bring your body to a state of calm.

Honestly, I am speaking from my own experience. I tap every day. I have experienced PTSD about driving and found I can now drive in a state of calm.

Tapping requires you to do it more than once. I do it daily. But the response is instant for me. I immediately feel calm and clear after just a few moments of tapping. Tapping regularly tones your nervous system. Calm becomes familiar.

Calm means resourcefulness it doesn’t mean unprotected which is why for some people a state of calm feels uncomfortable at first. The nervous system is used to high alert. Once it becomes used to the idea calm is safe you can settle your nervous system quite quickly.

Remember your anxiety isn’t you. It is your nervous system. Thank it, calm it and update it so it knows you are safe enough.
