How to remain positive during life’s challenging times.

We may like to think life should be all about smelling the roses but at times things may happen to us that are just ‘stink’. At times like this we may wonder why me? Why did this have to happen to me or my family?

In my experience asking why isn’t useful and it is best to move to the questions: What can I do to help myself and how can I move through this? Sometimes later in our journey the why question may be answered but I believe there isn’t always a reason for stuff happening. Life has its share of trials and tribulations. We can’t always control what happens to us but we can control how we react.

Challenges can be part of an awakening. They can provide an opportunity for a reset and a chance to step into a healthier lifestyle. You may find yourself doing your own inner work and taking better care of yourself and your family. Having a regular practise of actions that help promote your well being is so beneficial. Recognising self care is necessary is going to help you recover so much quicker.

I found doing a daily gratitude diary, art therapy, reiki, using crystals and doing exercise helped me to maintain a positive approach to my own recovery. Using positive affirmations daily along with flower essences constantly helped me reinforce the idea that I would make a full recovery.

It is easy to self sabotage and it is understandable that we have days when we do that. However, it is important to recognise the frustration, anger and sad emotions we are experiencing , acknowledge them and then move forward to a more positive place using strategies that work for you.

When things go wrong it is an opportunity for you to double down on your healthy practises:

  • Take time out for a healing session.

  • Meet up with a friend.

  • Remember what brings you joy and find time for those moments.

  • Spend time in nature.

  • Go for a walk or exercise.

  • Listen to music or make your own-try a sound bath.

  • Seek help from professionals.

One of my key take aways from reflecting on the many challenges I have experienced over my lifetime is that once I have recovered from the difficulties I can appreciate the new strengths and talents overcoming adversity has given me.

And remember you don’t have to go through tough times alone. Talk to others and seek help.
